The benefits of Cloud computing are numerous. Many of these became evident to the companies jumping suddenly into remote work during the pandemic. They appreciate collaborative tools such as Microsoft Office 365 and Microsoft Teams. Cloud-based applications give your organization anytime, anywhere access on any device, so they are ideal for the current situation. And having moved to remote working, many businesses will not be turning back.
However, some organizations still have their critical ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) solutions on-premises. You may be wondering if now is the time to
Microsoft Dynamics ERP has long been a leader in ERP for small to midsize businesses. Microsoft’s cloud ERP solution is Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (BC). If you are currently using Dynamics GP or Dynamics SL, consider migrating to
Start with an Assessment
For businesses using an on-premises solution, the assessment is a valuable first step toward moving to the Cloud. Evaluating your existing solution and your goals and priorities will set the stage for your migration plan. As part of your assessment, answer these questions.
- How current is your Dynamics GP/SL solution?
- What type of SQL server are you running?
- What GP/SL features are you currently using?
- Who are your Independent Software Vendors (ISVs)?
- How do you use your data?
- Can your processes be migrated directly?
- What are your industry-specific needs?
- What is your budget?
- What are your higher-priority investments?
- What would you consider appropriate timing for your migration project?
- Will you want a phased or full implementation?
Microsoft Dynamics 365 BC can be customized to serve your particular business and your industry. Work with a partner who understands the specific needs of organizations like yours, and they will help you choose the best options for your operations.
Dynamics GP/SL to Business Central Migration Assessment Tool
Enavate developed a free assessment tool for current Dynamics GP or SL users contemplating a move to Dynamics 365 BC. The assessment tool is simple yet powerful. Fill in a ten-question form, and in less than five minutes, Enavate’s assessment wizard will tell you what you need to know about your current system.
You’ll find out what migration tools will work best for your situation and whether you’ll need support and adaptations. Then you can determine your next steps based on the time and effort required to migrate your data.
Enavate’s migration assessment tool will help you see which of three categories your migration will fall into:
Category One: Migration Stage Green
This stage is for migrations that the GP/SL assessment tool determines can be done easily. These simple migrations generally come with a fixed fee and a fixed implementation time estimate.
Category Two: Migration Stage Yellow
If this is your recommended option, your partner will do additional work to ensure the data carries over properly after migration, allowing you to retain all the necessary functionality. It won’t be as quick and easy as the green stage, but our experienced team will ensure it is done right.
Category Three: Migration Stage Red
This option means that your migration will be more involved and require additional time and resources to ensure that data is reliably transferred and full functionality is implemented. For some businesses, your processes must be redesigned or restructured for them to be fully operational in Dynamics 365 BC.
Understanding the level of complexity and the category into which your migration falls could influence your implementation decisions.
For instance, if your systems fall into the yellow or red category, and this is your busiest time of year, you may choose to migrate during a slower period.
You might also need to consider your budget. If you don’t have the budget for total payment, perhaps your partner will set up a payment schedule. This would ensure that you don’t have to choose between waiting and cutting corners on the necessary equipment.
You may choose a phased migration. Microsoft offers a Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) model package, changing your subscription from an annual fee to a monthly payment. You’ll have access to Dynamics 365 BC, including licenses, while you continue operating your on-premises solution. This gives you a test period to see how Dynamics 365 BC works for your organization.
