If You’re a Finance Professional, You Won’t Want to Miss the 2020 Virtual GFOA Conference

Every year, financial management professionals take part in the annual Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) conference. Attendees from years past can attest to just how valuable the conference experience can be. With finance experts from around the country discussing the latest research, participating in various trainings, and of course networking, the GFOA conference is a major opportunity for finance professionals to learn and grow.

This year’s 114th annual conference was set to take place in New Orleans, Louisiana. But like many conferences across the United States, the in-person event had to be cancelled due to social distancing measures and the concerns surrounding the Coronavirus.

Fortunately, however, the conference will still take place virtually! Regardless of where you’re located in the U.S., it’s easy to take part in this year’s virtual conference: all you need is a computer and an internet connection.

What to Expect at This Year’s Conference

The 2020 GFOA Virtual Conference will include the annual GFOA business meeting on May 18th, along with over 40 sessions covering a wide range of topics. Conference attendees can participate in these sessions via their computer, and they’ll have the opportunity to participate in Q&A. Topics covered by the conference sessions will include financial management technology, SaaS, and data management, making the conference an excellent opportunity for governments and agencies to learn more about ERP software and various ERP solutions.

Although the conference is taking place entirely online, there will still be ample opportunities for participants to chat with exhibitors and sponsors. Plus, attendees will be given access to video recordings of each session once the conference comes to an end.

2020 GFOA Virtual Conference Registration

The virtual conference will begin on May 18th and run through June 26th.

If you’ve already registered for the in-person conference, all you have to do is transfer your registration in order to participate in the virtual conference.

If you’ve not yet registered for the conference, don’t worry: you can still register here. We recommend registering ASAP, however, as registration closes on May 17th.

How to Attend the 2020 GFOA Virtual Conference

Wondering how this year’s virtual conference will work, and what you need to do in order to attend?

First off, the technology requirements are simple: all you need is a reliable internet connection. If you want to check your browser to ensure that it’s compatible with the conference streaming technology, simply head over to the GFOA site and use the test link that will be made available before the conference begins.

Once you’re registered for the conference, you’ll be ready to join for the annual business meeting on May 18th and the keynote session that will come afterward. You can then simply log on for whichever sessions you’ve opted to register for.

Although the conference is taking place online, there will still be plenty of opportunities to connect with other attendees, including Q&A sessions, live polls, the GFOA mobile app, social media, and weekly ‘Ask the Expert’ sessions. There’s even going to be a virtual exhibition hall where attendees can talk with exhibitors and sponsors.

Remember that all of the sessions are being recorded and attendees will have access to them after the conference.
