What started as a tiny issue had turned into a major problem for the firm, also putting them at risk for heavy regulatory fines.

 

The firm needed a mobile-friendly tech solution that would enable their portfolio managers to stay on top of trade approvals. This sounds like a simple fix. But, given that the firm was using Salesforce in combination with a trade settlement platform, there was no straightforward way to build a custom app solution within Salesforce. And, of course, the last thing the firm wanted to do was switch to an entirely new ERP suite.

With the help of the Microsoft Power Platform, we built a custom Microsoft Power App that could integrate with both the firm’s existing trade settlement platform and Salesforce—in just one day. By gathering the necessary information from the firm’s cloud, the app could keep track of individual trades associated with each of the firm’s portfolio managers. When a trade approval request came through, the corresponding manager would receive an alert on their phone. Then, once the request had been approved, the app would automatically send an email to the firm’s compliance team.

 

The result? An efficient solution that also satisfied regulatory requirements. And best of all, AKA built this solution in less than a day. No switching to a new ERP solution, no clunky workaround -- now you know why they call it the Power Platform!

 

How the Power Platform Works

The Microsoft Power Platform is made up of three different Microsoft tools: Power Automate (formerly Microsoft Flow), Power Apps, and Power BI. All three of these tools have one thing in common: they’re designed to make it easier than ever to build an app, manage data, and get better data insights -- all without the need for advanced developer knowledge. When combined, these three tools are especially powerful.

 

One of the best things about the Power Platform is that it’s built on the Common Data Service for Apps (CDS). This means that the Power Platform can access a unified data schema, allowing for easy integration with third party applications and services. As a result, Power Platform-based apps can integrate seamlessly with Microsoft products as well as third party ERP solutions.
