Microsoft Dynamics GP to Benefit from Cloud Technology with 2018 R2 Update

    Email | Print

    With the release of Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 R2 on October 1 (the French version will be released this week), the financial management system Microsoft Dynamics GP is now the first Microsoft ERP system to benefit from the new Intelligent Edge feature.

    It allows on-premise system users to take advantage of cloud technologies, such as Power BI and Microsoft Flow, by connecting on-premise data to a cloud instance of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. Users can then leverage dashboards, reports and charts from anywhere via the device of their choice to better manipulate and visualize their GP data.

    As such, Intelligent Edge provides great mobility and analysis possibilities. It is expected to become a prominent tool moving forward and will become available for other Microsoft ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics Business Central On-Premise (previously Dynamics NAV) in the coming months.

    Of course, Dynamics GP 2018 R2 also comes with a host of new functionalities and improvements to improve usability and allow organizations to manage their finances and business with the best technologies and tools available. The changes were focused on the following main areas:

    • Financial improvements, aiming at facilitating transactions and making the application even user-friendlier, namely regarding payroll, recurrences and cheques;
    • Purchasing usability and efficiency improved thanks to new functionalities added to the purchasing module;
    • Sales optimization with various enhancements brought to the module as well as a new workflow and SmartList;
    • And other new features and improvements made based on top feature requests from the Microsoft Dynamics GP user community.

    Furthermore, with the release date for new versions being moved to October instead of December, GP releases will now coincide with updates for other Microsoft products. This will make it easier for customers to renew their contracts by reducing the number of renewal dates.

    We are excited about what this means for Dynamics GP users and look forward to seeing the way cloud and artificial intelligence technologies will help organizations manage their business moving forward.
