Fall in Love with these new features in Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018

Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 was released last December and now is the perfect time to start planning for your upgrade. This latest version includes a variety of updates that improve user experience and incorporate new features most requested by current GP users. Below are the top five features you’re going to fall in love with in Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018.

  1. Option to Roll Down Payroll Set up Options to Inactive Records

Now, when you want to make changes to your payroll setup options, you can exclude inactive employees from your changes. Through this feature, changes are rolled down only to active employee records. Depending on the size of your company and the number of past employees you have, this could save you a substantial amount of time.

This feature will work with pay code, deduction, or benefit.

2. New sorting options in a variety of different windows

There is nothing worse than having to drill into a window after window searching for the information you’re looking for. Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 includes several different new sorts and search features that allow you to find the information you’re looking for quickly. You can now query by:

  • Receivables Transaction Inquiry by Customer
  • Receivables Transaction Inquiry by Document
  • Receivables Transaction Inquiry Sort by Options
    • Type
    • Document number
    • Document amount
    • Amount remaining
    • Document date
  • Payables Transaction Inquiry by Vendor
  • Payables Transaction Inquiry by Document
  • Payables Transaction Inquiry Sort by Options
    • Document number
    • Type
    • Original amount
    • Unapplied amount

3.  Additional windows now allow for document and note attachments.


If you had not been previously using Doc Attach, you’ll need to set it up within Dynamics GP by going to Tools > Setup > Company > Document Attachment. Mark “allow document attachments” and “Allow Attachments to be added in inquiry windows” and you’re ready to go.

The following inquiry windows now allow document attachments:

  • Employee inquiry
  • I-9 Form
  • Fixed Asset Inquiry

Notes can be added in these windows:

  • Vendor inquiry
  • Customer inquiry
  • Project Inquiry
  • PA Project Inquiry

4. Ability to Print and Email a Single Statement from the customer card


This feature is pretty self-explanatory, but adds in a layer of convenience that users didn’t have before. You can access a customer statement by going to Customer Maintenance > Cards > Sales > Customer > Print > Statement. From there, you have the option to select the statement and print or email as a PDF.

5. Updates to the web client

The Web Client is an important feature in GP that allows users to access GP from any computer, anywhere. Thankfully the new GP update includes a handful of improvements to the Web Client.

Autocomplete – If there are any previously entered valued on a field, users will now be presented with a drop-down menu matching the partially entered value.

Items can be clicked on the drop-down menu, and the full value will be autocompleted on to the field. The same thing can be accomplished via the cursor key and the enter key on the keyboard.

One Click Access to SmartList – At the top right of the Web Client window is a link to open SmartLists.

Bank Reconciliation Window – You now have a better view of transactions within the bank rec window, which reduces the amount of scrolling needed to find transactions.
