Microsoft is set to release the 2017 year-end update this month. Those companies that do not install the update will face major issues if they try and complete year-end. Without the year-end update installed, Affordable Care Act forms will be incorrect, as well as W-2 electronic filing and fixed asset depreciation. These are huge issues that you can avoid by simply installing the year-end update!

The 2017 Year-End Update Includes:

  1. No W-2 or W-3 Form Changes
  2. EFW-2 changes (required)
  3. Product Quality Fixes around Payroll year-end
  4. Affordable Care Act Updates – Form and Code Changes
  5. Fixed Asset Luxury Auto Depreciation changes

Additionally, there is a change with Accuwage this year. Your electronic filing is tested in Accuwage prior to being submitted to the Social Security Administration. Accuwage used to be a free download that you installed with JAVA. In 2017, the SSA stated that installing JAVA and Accuwage is susceptible to hackers, so they changed how files are tested.

In order to test your files, go to

  1. On the right, choose Log in
  2. Enter your account information
  3. Click Report Wages to Social Security
  4. Choose Accuwage Online tab
  5. Click the link Accuwage Online, choose W2 regulars
  6. Choose your file and begin testing

Note that if you didn’t install the year-end update in Microsoft Dynamics GP, you will get an error when testing. Make sure to install the update prior to testing your files through Accuwage.
