How to Get the Most Out of ERP

Email | Print

Modern Manufacturing is constantly having to adjust the way they operate to keep up with demands. Effective demand planning requires a deep understanding of your company’s past and current performance through gathered business intelligence to properly forecast future demand and, in turn, meet company goals. According to the Aberdeen Group, 97% of industry leaders look to their ERP software to help manage a huge amount of data, but may not know the best way to utilize their findings.

With the continued problem of unpredictable demand, increasing volume and complexity of data, manufacturers require an ERP system that can handle their advanced needs to meet all their needs. Some manufacturers are led to believe that if they replace their legacy manufacturing systems to increase their technology environment it will make it easier to gather and interpret their data. For instance, some manufacturers believe adding a fuller featured business software solution or just adding a shop floor control module to their current solution will solve the problem.

There many ways to increase functionality

Yes, we are a software reseller/partner, but our first priority is to help manufacturers get what they need. With that being said, implementing a new business software solution is a lengthy process that will cost their organization time and money with no guarantee of increasing its functionality. A simpler solution is to just expand their current ERP system. Not only does it increase ERP’s functionality, it also gives you the power to personalize it to better suit your company’s needs while simplifying the process of gathering business intelligence.

Obviously if you’ve already reached your current software’s maximum functionality or if the problem is beyond its functionality (e.g. it’s difficult to use, doesn’t work properly) then it is time to move on to greener pastures. But if those aren’t the issues, we know some tricks to help you get the most out of your business software solution.

There are three ways you can expand your ERP:

  • Implementing more modules
  • Taking advantage of ERP add-ons or ISV solutions (independent software vendor)
  • Tightly integrating your applications by having your  IT team and a VAR (value added reseller/partner) create an integration between the systems.
