There is a lot of talk about "Business Intelligence", which seems to mean anything you want these days. The term is mostly used to talk about reporting and different ways in which information can be presented and consumed by power users and decision makers in your company. Personally, I tend to lean on the practical side of the technology because over the course of my more than 30 years experience dealing with computer systems (and users) I have learned one thing: simpler is better. If something is cumbersome to use or difficult to understand—no matter how powerful—the likelihood of it having an impact on your business is close to nil.
So, since I like it simple, instead of rambling about BI here, I will make it short and sweet. There is this reporting tool I love and I want to share it with you; it is called MobileBoards, and allows you to put the intelligence of your business in your pocket, and to take it with you anywhere you go. MobileBoards is made by , a company that has been making noise with for a few years now. Also, it is based in Grand Rapids, MI — and nothing bad can come out of a place famous for its beer!
MobileBoards is essentially a mobile app that can display simple (but nifty-looking) reports that have been published to the cloud directly from your Dynamics database. Reports are grouped into "Boards" as desired by the user and each board can display multiple reports that can be text or graphical. There is also full by-user security control of what user sees which reports.
Did I tell you I like simple? Ah, but I also like inexpensive: MobileBoards' license is a subscription-only priced at USD$195 per user per device per year.
I have yet to find a Dynamics GP user that is not thrilled with MobileBoards. It is a set-it-and-forget-it proposition that provides ubiquitous access to the most important information from your business, available 24/7 with near zero maintenance. if you want to see it or try it!
