Microsoft Dynamics GP Empowers Nonprofit Organizations

Nonprofit organizations (NPOs) need to stretch every funding dollar as far as it can go, and no solution stretches dollars like Microsoft Dynamics GP. It enables NPOs to spend more time securing grants and less time dealing with inefficient technology and processes. Microsoft Dynamics GP automates tedious operations, and it helps NPOs efficiently manage grants, funding, encumbrances, commitments, and much more. For example, City Harvest, an NPO featured in the keynote address that kicked off Microsoft Convergence this year, used Microsoft Dynamics GP to double the amount of food they delivered to the hungry.

City Harvest collects excess food from over 5000 participating restaurants and markets, and delivers it to over 600 New York City emergency food programs every day. They have been operating for more than 30 years, but in 2011 they enacted an ambitious five year plan to double the amount of food they delivered without significantly increasing costs. How? By investing in the latest technology with Microsoft Dynamics GP.

City Harvest worked with Microsoft Dynamics Gold Certified Partner MIG & Co. to deploy Microsoft Dynamics GP on-premises and Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online in the cloud. City Harvest has been using the software solutions out of the box, with no customizations, and they've already met their goal of doubling their food delivery, without significantly increasing their staff size. Microsoft Dynamics GP has improved inventory counts and categorization, and Microsoft Dynamics CRM is used to efficiently track City Harvest's thousands of prospective food donors. Optimized route scheduling has enabled City Harvest to retrieve and deliver more food per trip.

On stage during the keynote address, City Harvest's Matthew Reich, VP, Food Sourcing and IT, said, "The technology that we've been using has allowed us to double the amount of food in the past three years to over 46 million pounds." City Harvest is a privately funded nonprofit enterprise, and Reich said, "We have a responsibility to our financial donors to make every dollar go as far as it can. So we're using technology to become more efficient, drive down the cost per pound, to rescue and deliver a pound of food, to the nearly 2 million New Yorkers who face hunger every year."

City Harvest's Director of IT, James Safonov, joined Reich on stage, and said, "The ease of integration between Dynamics CRM, Office 365, and on-premise Dynamics GP modules that we use—such as General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Inventory Management, Management Reporter—allows us to manage expenses, inventory, and use our financial donor dollars in the most efficient way possible."

And what Microsoft Dynamics GP has done for City Harvest, it can do for any nonprofit organization. Talk with MIG & Co. to find out how far your NPO's dollars can be stretched.
