3 Tips to Ensure You Get the Most Value Out of Microsoft Dynamics

Email | Print

One of the most important features of any new enterprise resource planning (ERP) software solution is the value you extract from it. When you initially implement an ERP solution like Microsoft Dynamics, you generally invest the time and energy in the initial training to get up and running.

That said, research shows that over time your organization will use less and less of the application’s features due to a variety of reasons. Many organizations make these two common errors that contribute towards diminishing the value of their system:

  • Relying on “Over the shoulder” training from other users. This can dilute knowledge about system usage and functionality by up to 50 percent.
  • Training one person well and expecting that individual to teach others how to use the system. Even with the best intent, existing users teach only 70 to 80 percent of what they know.

How do you help ensure your organization is getting the most value from your Microsoft Dynamics solution?

1. Implement a Training Plan – It’s important to have a training plan and budget. With today’s options, training doesn't have to mean time out of the office or travel expenses. If you are just in the process of implementing or upgrading an ERP solution like Dynamics AX, NAV or GP, now is a great time to ensure you plan for a training budget along with renewal fees.

2. Invest in Formal Training for New Users – Formal training programs for new users will help you avoid diminishing the value of your investment. There are hidden costs for not investing in training.

3. Consider Retraining Options – What percentage of your solution is being used? It might be time to consider retraining your existing users to refresh their knowledge.

Many VARs have well established training programs for their clients so talk with your VAR about their offerings to determine the best approach to get the highest return on investment for your training dollar. They will help you develop a plan that fits for your organization’s goals.
