The Perils and Pitfalls of Self-Implementation Regarding ERP Accounting Solutions

I had the opportunity to speak with Christopher Tepper, one of our Senior Sales Consultants at The TM Group regarding the perils and pitfalls of companies that decide to self-implement their ERP and accounting solutions.  Chris relayed to me that the days of those simple, DOS based general ledger packages are really in the past. The controller was very quick to take the owner up on the offer so she could garner the bonus.  However, the implementation of the software, especially regarding the project and invoicing modules for Microsoft Dynamics GP, was configured and executed incorrectly and the company was unable to get the accurate reports they needed.  The information and data provided from the way the controller had setup the system was erroneous and useless. It was also cumbersome for users and actually created more work and reduced the productivity of the team considerably.  In the end, they needed to bring in one of our consultants to redo the installation and implementation.

Although it may seem to cost more in the beginning of a new ERP system implementation, it will always save you money in the long run and help you avoid the perils and pitfalls of trying to self-implement.
