Cloud Computing for your Accounting Department: A More Secure Choice

There is a reason accounting information has been the last to enter the cloud. That reason is security. Your accounting and financial records are the lifeline of your business and if that information were to be hacked into, you would be at extreme risk. That’s why there are options in reference to the cloud and security concerns. The cloud doesn’t have to mean going all-out in the public cloud, having your data out on the web for anyone or everyone to access. For business, there are other options.

Before entering into other choices for cloud computing accounting, let’s review the benefits that it could bring your organization. The number one benefit is centralized data. By using the cloud, anyone within your organization can access data relevant to them anytime and anywhere. This flexibility allows for more control and offers more scalability to your business. So with that in mind, maybe the first question you should ask yourself is “Does my business really need anytime/anywhere access?” If the answer is an absolute yes, then cloud computing may be for you.

The More Secure Choice: As I mentioned above, cloud computing doesn’t have to mean all-out public cloud. The more popular option that many companies gravitate toward is software hosting. We here at SSi Consulting have had the privilege of working with companies in a variety of industries to place their accounting “in the cloud” through our hosted ERP offering. This popular offering requires no server hardware purchase, no installation or maintenance fees, and gives you instant access to accounting, inventory, distribution, business intelligence, and financial reporting needs.

  1. Interesting article. I used Wolf database application PaaS for developing an accounting application for Chartered Accountants in our company. Wolf is a rapid development platform and it just took me a couple of weeks to get the entire application up and running. I pay only for the data I use and there is no additional costs of maintenance. wolf gives me SSL encrypted security and my data is quite safe in a SAS 70, Type II data center. Take a glance of their offering at
