3 Accounting Software Selection Tips Buyers Usually Forget

Email | Print

There are lots of tips out there about how to choose the the right ERP/accounting software. But these are 3 tips that can be easily overlooked:

1)      Flexibility – choose a system that is easy to integrate and connect with other systems. Also a system that has many ISV/add-on applications available to add functionality you need without expensive customization. Be careful when looking at industry  niche vertical products. They can seem like a perfect fit for your specific needs, but you can also get trapped in a system that is not flexible. For example, we work with alot of companies looking for accounting software for the Oil, Fuel Distribution/Petroleum industry. Many of them used ADD system, a niche software package built specifically for these companies.  But now they can't get the up to date features and integration that they need as they grow.  So many of these customers are now moving to Microsoft Dynamics GP because they can get the new features they want, in a flexible system that still fits their industry processes.

2)      Partner support – choosing the right partner to install and support your system is one of the most important things you can do.  What is their track record and experience? Check their current financial stability and references.

3)      Good customer community  - Choose a product that lets you be a part of a community with customer events, forums, user groups, and other ways you can communicate and learn from other users.

There are many things to keep in mind when choosing the right accounting software, but don't miss these three tips. If you are looking for the right partner to help you choose the best package, call CAL Business Solutions 860-485-0910.
