title="Microsoft Customer Conference - Convergence 2011" href="http://msconvergence.com" target="_blank">Microsoft Customer Conference Convergence. Convergence is the largest Microsoft networking, training, and knowledge sharing event of the year and takes place April 10th-13th at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Last year Convergence drew more than 8,000 attendees.

With four sessions of the Conference on Tuesday and Wednesday dedicated specifically to these new features and reporting enhancements, attendees will see first hand what has been included in this next release. Microsoft Dynamics GP product team members have a “Inside Dynamics GP” blog which has a “Feature of the Day” highlighting these new additions to the product. So, we’ve seen a sneak preview of several of the benefits to updating to Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 R2.

Some of my favorite improved elements are:

Navigation Lists display up to 360% faster.

Ability to email Dynamics reports, with field replacement options directly from GP!

Sales Order Returns now able to be sent in Word format, along with over 20 other document types.

Easier to create/brand new document templates in Word format.

New Report Deployment Wizard for SQL Reporting Services reports.

Over 50 new SQL reporting services reports across financials, distribution, payroll, & more.

Drilldown from Summary to Detail in SRS reports.

Multi-company reporting and drilldown with SRS.

Ability to Copy Security across Dynamics installations of GP, BP, and other Microsoft software.

Dexterity table expansions for developers to quickly identify tables and data.

Customers will speed productivity, allow insight into key data, and be able to utilitize their existing Microsoft Office software to exchange information with personnel within their organizations or around the world immediately!

It seems that just a few years ago we were thrilled with the ability to move from “Fedexing” documents to faxing or using a modem to transfer data to our customers, vendors, or international offices. With these additional Word Formats, Email capabilities, and Reporting options, now we can simply press a couple of keys and transmit specific details, in specific formats, to specific resources, with variables and exceptions all taken into account.

I can’t wait to show my customers how quickly we can make this happen for them with Microsoft Dynamics GP! Once we get back from Convergence, we hold Free Customer Webcasts to highlight and train our customers on the newest features of their existing products.

If you are looking to replace your current ERP software, or are searching for experts in Microsoft Dynamics, <a

Is your organization outgrowing QuickBooks?

Celleration, a member of the highly regulated Life Sciences industry, was using a combination of QuickBooks and Excel for their accounting solution, where much of their key reporting was done by rekeying information into spreadsheets. In addition to rekeying information from QuickBooks into Excel, Celleration also had a large volume of data in QuickBooks, which was creating an unstable and unreliable environment, and would often cause system crashes at critical times. Celleration needed an <a

In some instances, these dollar amounts must also be added to the employee’s taxable wage amount. Recent legislation will bring this need to the forefront, as employers will now be required to calculate and report the aggregate cost of applicable employer-sponsored health insurance coverage on employees’ Form W-2s. Examples of other benefits an employer may choose (or be required) to disclose include:

Employer retirement plan contributions

Group term life insurance

Auto allowances

Employee assistance programs

Disability insurance

Often, a payroll professional will set these items up as both a pay code (to get the information into the payroll system and include in the employee’s taxable wage if necessary) and a deduction (to avoid making a cash payment to the employee). While this method will work, Microsoft Dynamics GP has Benefit functionality built in to allow you to accomplish the same thing in one simple step. This functionality exists whether or not you own the Human Resources module. Taking advantage of this functionality is very straight-forward. Benefits are set up at the company level and then assigned and rolled down to employees, just as the setup of Pay Codes and Deductions.

To set up the company level benefit, navigate to Payroll >> Setup >> Benefit. While I won’t explain every field, as they are very similar to the fields in the Pay Code Setup and Deduction Setup windows, I do want to briefly explain the fields that affect taxation of the benefit and the reporting of the benefit on the W-2.

Subject to Taxes: By default, Benefits are not included in taxable wages unless one or more of these boxes is selected. A quick look at the functionality of these options:

Federal: the benefit amount will be included in the taxable wages for federal income tax purposes, and will be included in box 1 of the W-2. Federal income tax will be withheld from this amount.

FICA Soc Sec: the benefit amount will be included in Social Security wages, and will be included in box 3 of the W-2. Social security tax will be withheld from this amount.

FICA Medicare: the benefit amount will be included in Medicare wages, and will be included in box 5 of the W-2. Medicare tax will be withheld from this amount.

State: the benefit amount will be included in wages for state income tax purposes, and will be included in box 16 of the W-2. State income tax will be withheld from this amount.

Local: the benefit will be included in taxable wages for Local income tax purposes, and will be included in box 18 of the W-2.

FUTA: the benefit will be included in taxable wages for Federal Unemployment purposes. Federal unemployment tax will be accrued on this amount.

SUTA: the benefit will be included in taxable wages for State Unemployment purposes. State unemployment tax will be accrued on this amount.

Flat Tax Rates: These fields are used to override the Federal an State income tax withholding amounts as calculated by Microsoft Dynamics GP using the tax tables during the ‘Calculate Checks’ process.

W-2 Box: enter the number of the box on the W-2 in which the amount should appear, if applicable. You do not need to enter boxes 1, 3 or 5 here, as inclusion in those boxes is determined by the selections in the ‘Subject to Taxes’ fields.

W-2 Label: enter the label that should appear on the W-2.

When adding new benefits, please remember double check the ‘Include Benefits’ section of the Payroll Build to confirm the benefit will be included in the applicable pay runs.

Benefits can appear on the employees’ pay documents (Payroll Checks and Direct Deposit Earnings Statements) if you so choose. Benefits that are subject to taxes and included in payroll processing will be included on the W-2 automatically.

By OTT, Inc. a entry on an enterprise blog today arguing weather, with the economic culture being as it is, companies are truly interested in finding those nuggets of features in a product that differentiate them from the competition, or do they just want a good, basic product they can grow with, offered at a reasonable or low price?

I do believe that although other ERP systems may be able to utilize the same tools, servers, and overall technology as Microsoft Dynamics products enjoy, they also face these rough economic conditions. As the other blog entry pointed out, being inside Microsoft’s four walls means that although Microsoft Dynamics could be considered an Independent Software Vendor (ISV) itself, they have key access to resources, beta access to products, and direct insight that surpass everyone else.

That means that integrations are released quickly and new features are intuitive to the way the office products natively work, so people can quickly take advantage of the features without extended training.

So for the other half of the question, price or differentiation, once we get past the bells and whistles, the customer does want to be reassured that the price is fair, and even lower than ever before.

Well, Microsoft has definitely stepped up in the price competition. With more promotions, free trial periods, and financing options, Microsoft allows businesses to start using Microsoft Dynamics ERP products while only minimally impacting their current budgets. Collins Computing can talk thru these multiple ways to purchase Microsoft Dynamics ERP at a discount, with any prospect. We also consistently inform existing customers of the numerous offers Microsoft extends to them throughout the year, (an unprecedented number currently available).

What do we believe companies want today? We believe they want BOTH fabulous prices AND key differentiators when selecting their software. These are two of the primary reasons we have selected to resell Microsoft Dynamics for over 16 years. We then extend those characteristics with our unsurpassed services, expert consultants, and proven success to establish one of the largest Microsoft Dynamics resellers in the Western United States.

By ERP system in this economy?

The truth is, it‘s the perfect time to replace your inefficient, out-dated legacy system with a new one that provides easier and better access to the critical information that will help your business jump ahead of the competition as the economy moves out of the current recession. Companies often upgrade to new software when they are busiest and feel the pain of limitations of their older system the most – but that is when they have the least time and resources available to make the change and learn how to take advantage of the new capabilities.

If you’re struggling with an ineffective system yet are reluctant to make a change because you think it will cost too much and/or it will be too disruptive, think again. Now, when business is less hectic, is the time to prepare for the coming recovery. And it may be a lot more affordable than you think.

We see a lot of companies investing in new technology now.
