They can track inventory manually or they can track inventory using software.

There is another alternative to track inventory. They can track inventory with barcode labels and quality barcode software and do it simply and easily.

Generally, inventory comes into a warehouse into the receiving area and that’s where the challenge begins. First the inventory must be received. Then it must be put away in a warehouse location. If the initial inventory is barcoded, the barcode may or may not be suitable for each particular business’s inventory management needs. That means that incoming inventory stock must be re-labeled with new barcodes or simply left unlabeled and put away. If the latter is chosen, deciding that it’s just too much work to barcode label inventory, good luck with finding that inventory item again when it’s needed. If, however, the incoming inventory items are labeled with barcode labels that are available as print on demand, the process becomes simplified. Tracking inventory with barcodes saves time and money.

Another option is to simply create an Inventory Book with Barcoded labels so that you can scan in without physically barcoding all items in the warehouse. Utilize the Inventory Item and Vendor Item relationship to use existing vendor barcodes already existing in GP Dynamics.

Once the initial barcode label is applied to the inventory item, it can then be quickly scanned for its next location and easily monitored with barcode software. Scan the barcode label to put the inventory item away, scan the inventory item’s location, and the put away is complete. Then, simply receive the work
order to move the inventory to its next home – scan the barcode label of the location, scan the barcode label of the inventory item, scan the barcode label
of the next home. Done, done, and done.

Barcode is quick. Barcode is accurate. Barcode is very well accepted by users as it makes their jobs in the inventory control process easier. Track inventory with barcode and you’ll begin seeing benefits. Follow these basic guidelines and implement a successful Inventory Control and Inventory Management
barcode solution:

· Review the Inventory Items to be managed

· Determine who will manage and maintain the inventory tracking system

· Consider how to barcode label inventory

· Consider the barcode hardware

DFC Consultants offers a very effective, efficient and inexpensive solution to your Barcoding and Inventory Management needs. Please contact your sales representative at 800-277-5561 or email <a

Just imagine spending that money every time you needed insight into your business reports and processes. Well one of our clients remembers being solely dependent on their CPA for vital business information and cringes to think of the actual figures they spent on that service.

This multi-store retail grocer manages seven store locations in addition to a few holding companies and needed more timely information that could be consolidated while kept separate so they could easily track inventory for each store. In addition to this, they also required more control internally so they could gain quick access to complete information, without having to pay the CPA fees associated. More control would be sure to result in better reporting and streamlined business processes for their company.

They are happy to report that today they no longer depend on a CPA, but rather have full control of their data in a consolidated and easy-to-manage format. While they were searching for new solutions, they learned Microsoft Dynamics® GP was used in a number of other grocery stores and their CPA even recommended it. They had a solution but needed a partner to help them move forward and really optimize the solution to fit their needs. Through their research, they found the TM Group had a long history in the grocery industry.

Our client moved forward and implemented the basic functions of Microsoft Dynamics GP, including Accounts Payables, Accounts Receivables, General Ledger, and SmartList Builder. They also implemented an ISV solution from Binary Stream called Multi-Facility that met their consolidation needs. Our client realized three main benefits after implementing Microsoft Dynamics GP and Multi Facility:

Streamlined Consolidation among Multiple Locations and Companies: With multi facility from Binary Stream, our client can see all their stores in one database within Microsoft Dynamics GP. They can see vendor contact information and work history to easily track the purchase process for each story. They have complete insight into customer data, history, and invoices. The solution also allows them to drill down into profit and loss for each store independently.

Quick and Easy Access to Critical Business Information: Our client was using excel spreadsheets for everything they tracked and were not able to produce financial statements until 4-6 weeks after each quarter. Even with the untimely information they got from their CPAs, they still couldn’t even drill down to the information they needed insight to. SmartList Builder within Microsoft Dynamics GP has created reporting benefits for our clients by centralizing and automating data in one database. The automation of the reporting process has created more functionality when reporting on financials. For example, if they want to run an ad-hoc report for a vendor at a particular location, they can drill down to that information automatically, right within Microsoft Dynamics GP any day of the year. Realizing this functionality is allowing this grocer better business insight to make the critical decisions in order to beat out their competition.

Better Handle on Inventory and Streamlined Order Process: Before Microsoft Dynamics GP, our client had to dig into multiple spreadsheets to find what inventory was available for a particular location. Even then, that data was most likely out of date, as the data was not automatically updated as sales continued on a daily basis. Microsoft Dynamics GP allows for better inventory control. They can now quickly respond to vendor inquiries on status of invoice payments with real-time data from Microsoft Dynamics GP. They can see exactly what was purchased from a particular vendor in multiple time increments in addition to the volume available at the vendor’s warehouse. Microsoft Dynamics GP is also integrated with their POS system so that their inventory is automatically updated each time a sale goes through at each grocery location. All of this insight allows for timely and complete communications with both vendors and customers about what’s available for purchase.

By The TM Group, <a

It is that simple!

Ask yourself these questions:

How are you determining which products to stock and at which location?

Are you keeping accurate track of on-hand inventory quantities?

Do you have accurate and effective inventory forecasting processes?

Are you organizing your warehouse by product line or by product demand?

Is your technology managing this process effectively or are you just managing to get by?

The successful management of your inventory is ofte times a challenge. But, as your inventory is most likely the largest monetary investment your company will make, it is important to keep your products moving in as efficiently as possible.

Getting a firm grasp of your inventory and managing your investment requires you to put your virtual arms around it. Using an ERP system that has the tools you need to manage your inventory will provide a solid return on your investment.

There are a few must-have functions you should look for in any ERP system you consider for managing your inventory investment:

Bin Locations
This provides the ability to place your inventory in specific locations in the warehouse for use in picking routines, restocking, and inventory counting.

Replenishment Control
Your buying strategy must insure enough of an item is on hand, but without being overstocked. A replenishment control system will provide you the ability to calculate the optimum quantity to have on hand, including safety stock, on an item by item basis. It will then provide you information on when to order and from whom.

Cycle Inventory
Counting Physical inventories often requires every able-bodied employee, including the receptionist, to show up bleary-eyed early in the morning and to count every piece of inventory in the warehouse. The result is not an extremely accurate, or time efficient, valuation of what’s on hand. Cycle inventory counting provides the ability to count parts of the inventory every day, with the fastest moving items being counted more frequently that those items that haven’t sold since 1985.

Reporting
It’s in the system somewhere; you should be able to get it out. You need flexibility to slice and dice your inventory and selling patterns so you can make intelligent business decisions. Sometimes you need it graphically, sometimes in text. It might be easiest if it was automatically emailed to you, or available online. You should look for an ERP system that provides a variety of reporting opportunities as well as a database that doesn’t restrict you to a proprietary report writer.

Depending on a company’s needs and complexity, there are many other elements of an ERP system to consider. The bottom line is to find a system that provides you with the ability to satisfy your customers while managing your inventory sensibly.

By Sikich – Microsoft Dynamics GP has made it easier than ever to determine your current inventory balance with the Historical Inventory Trial Balance (HITB) module. Reconcile, create clearing transactions and run validation reports all within the historical inventory trial balance module. Now, the HITB report can be used to reconcile General Ledger (GL) any time of the month.

Gone are the days of remembering to print the Stock Status at month end and remembering that not all transactions make it into the Historical Stock Status.

The Historical Inventory Trial Balance report provides a current and historical value of your inventory items. It lists quantity balances by each of the five quantity types (On Hand, Returned, In Service, In Use, and Damaged) and inventory values at a certain point in time or for a designated date range. You can use this report as the basis for balancing your inventory with the appropriate accounts in General Ledger. You can run the report for a single GL account or run the report without any restrictions to reconcile the entire current inventory value.

In order to utilize the Dynamics GP’s Historical Inventory Trial Balance, the following items must be performed:

While not required, you should perform an inventory stock count to be confident that you are working with accurate quantities

Post all un-posted inventory related batches

Install HITB on server and each workstation

Run the IV reset tool to calculate the appropriate starting inventory amounts. This process will not affect current inventory quantities but it will post a journal entry to account for differences between the inventory value and general ledger.

<a
