People are getting extremely excited about Microsoft Dynamics GP “12”, which is the codename for Microsoft’s next version of Dynamics GP. Part of the reason for the excitement is that the new version will have a web-based client, allowing users to access it from within a web browser. That means Dynamics GP customers will be able to take their ERP onto mobile platforms and multiple devices.
The new UI (user interface) for the web client will be revolutionary, building upon the strong development tools Microsoft already has in place, namely Silverlight, .NET (C#), .NET Runtime, and SRS Viewer/HTML. Silverlight is a powerful development platform that is very friendly to open standards through its use of Extensible Application Markup Language (XAML). It will allow the web client to be media rich, interactive, and well integrated with data. It will interface directly with the .NET Framework, which will connect the user with the server.
If you are used to web applications being very static and weak compared to desktop applications, you will be pleasantly surprised by GP 12, which will utilize a windows manager and rendering engine to present natural windows for forms and other interface components.

The result of all of this is that the “classic client”, the Microsoft Dynamics GP that you are used to, will still function and interact with Microsoft SQL Server the way that it always has. The addition of the web client, however, will add another layer of functionality and a host of additional options for usage and mobility, all without compromising the user experience or the data.
