Gary Francart, KTL SolutionsThe Bottom Line on the Move from FRx to Management Reporter

If you are like a lot of CFOs and Accounting Managers using Dynamics GP, you are concerned about the coming transition from FRx to Management Reporter.  Learning a whole new reporting system on top of the day to day work you already have is probably not how you would like to spend your time.  Well, we have good news for you.

Management Reporter was built using the same concepts as FRx.  Rows, columns, and trees…all there.  Catalogs are the same with a snappy new name… Report Definition.  Report modification and report building…same again.  And the best new feature in Management Reporter that we all longed for in FRx… UNDO! Now if you add the wrong account or formatting, you can simply use the Undo button to roll back the change.

The bottom line is that Management Reporter is as easy to use as FRx and better.

    Improvements in architecture

There are a few new architecture improvements to go over as well.

64-bit support: Management Reporter was built using a 64 Bit environment.  The IT department won’t need to maintain a separate machine just for Management Reporter as they may have been doing for FRx.

Management Reporter is more stable:  Each area of the application (designing, processing and viewing) is isolated, making it easier to identify exactly where issues are.

Improved performance: Processing takes place on the server, not the client.  This frees up the client to continue designing reports instead of locking it up until the report has finished generating.

SQL Server Support:  This means no more corrupted spec files, no need to rebuild indexes to ensure new accounts are picked up.

Improved multi-user environment:   With the switch to IIS and SQL Server, there is no need to create shares for the sysdata and io_data.  All of the building blocks, company information and generated reports are in the SQL database.

Active directory support: Once users are added to Management Reporter, any changes made to passwords, etc. by users are automatically rolled forward.  There is no need to “manage” users in Management Reporter unless a user needs to be disabled or given a new security role.  This also means fewer login screens for the user.
