Last week at The TM Group’s Microsoft Dynamics conference, Vision 2010, we asked Tom Higginbottham, a technical solution specialist from Microsoft, to share some of the best new capabilities of Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 and SharePoint 2010.
Tom got rave reviews for showing the new External Lists for GP 2010/SharePoint 2010. External Lists will include:
- Customer List
- Customer Address List
- Sales Order List
- Sales Order Line List
- Customer Sales and Receivables
- Vendor List
- Vendor Address List
- Purchase Order List
- Purchase Order Line List
- Sales Item List
- Sales Item Quantities
- Open Service Call List
- Invoiced Service Call List
- Historical Service Call List
- Open Return Material Authorization List
- Historical Return Material Authorization List
With an External List, you have the ability to view as well as edit the data in the list from inside SharePoint 2010. In addition, the data in the list can be taken offline with SharePoint Workspace 2010, modified, and re-synchronized with the server.
SharePoint 2010 provides Business Connectivity Services, which allows you to construct an external list based on an External Content Type. External content types are the evolution of BDC entities from Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. A good introductory article on External Content Types and BCS is found here:
