Assuring a Successful ERP Implementation using Microsoft Sure Step Implementation Methodology

Email | Print

Having a method to the madness when implementing an ERP system is key to getting your projects completed “on time and under budget” as well as maintaining the proper accountability.  Microsoft Gold Certified partners use an implementation methodology called Sure Step. Culled from the wisdom of the Microsoft Dynamic global community’s collective experience with implementing Microsoft Dynamics applications, Sure Step is lauded as a repository of proven best practices and methodologies that will increase the success rate of Dynamics implementations.

Before embarking on the Sure Step path, it helps to understand what Sure Step really is, and what you need to do the take full advantage of it.

What Sure Step is:

  • A Best Practices methodology for project implementations based on the Project Management Institute (PMI) methodologies, adapted for Microsoft Dynamics products.
  • Tools for implementing best practices, such as templates developed using Microsoft Office products, such as Excel spreadsheets, Word documents, and Microsoft projects.
  • Templates for both internal and customer-facing deliverables.
  • Document repository – a storage area for project documents, with the ability to file them within relevant project methodology areas.
  • Best practices project methodology content to support how to carry out various project tasks outlined within the project plan.
  • Content customized for different Microsoft Dynamics products, such as GP.

To get the most out of Sure Step, think of it as a toolbox – some that you like and use right away and others that don’t immediately apply to your project. You may start using only a few of the templates and tools and then add others as you gain experience and confidence.

Crestwood Associates is using Sure Step on their Dynamics GP implementations and has had much success.
